On the study trip to Poland there were 45 members of the Herzeg-Bosnia Geodetic Association, led by and Mr. Ivan Lesko, Association President, and Mr. Željko Obradović, the Director of the Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs (FGA). The main location of the visit was the headquarters of the institution of Malopolska Voivodeship in Krakow, where members of the Association were warmly welcomed by Mr. Joseph Gawron, Deputy Mayor, Mrs. Grazyna Kierznowska, Director of the Polish Office for Geodesy and Cartography, Mrs. Danuta Paluch, Director of the Office for Geodesy and Cartography of Malopolska Voivodeship and Mrs. Ludmila Pietrzak, Deputy Chairman of the Polish Geodetic Association.

The participants were introduced with the organization of geodetic and cartographic activities, as well as current projects and the situations of cartographic and cadastral databases in Poland, starting from the state to the level of local self-government units. Since Poland is a large country (area of 312,000 km2, with 38 million inhabitants), it is a quite complex organization. From the presented it is evident that regardless of the complexity, the system works extremely well. The most up-to-date technologies are used in process of digitization and spatial data usage, with particular emphasis on the high level of use of EU funds in financing these activities. Since the part of Malopolska Voivodeship was under the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, particularly interesting for participants was the part related to harmonization of cadastre and land registry data, which is almost identical to the situationin Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was an opportunity for the participants to gain additional information and knowledge in the field of geodesy and cartography, which will be useful to them in future work.

After the presentation of the Polish hosts, Mr. Obradović gave a brief presentation of activities in the field of geodesy and cartography in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also emphasized the cooperation between the FGA and the Polish Geodesy and Cartography Office, within the Eurogeographics framework.

In closing address, Mr. Lesko thanked the hosts for the organization of the trip and their warm reception, as well for the opportunity to get acquainted with the current state of geodesy and cartography in Poland, and invited the hosts for cooperation and to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The memorial museum of the Auschwitz concentration camp and the Wielick mine, which is on the UNESCO list of protected heritage, have also been visited within this study trip.
